Coronation Street stars are pledging their support for pal Antony Cotton as he battles to be crowned King of the jungle. The actor has already faced his greatest fears as a contestant on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here. At the start of the series he jumped 12,000ft from a helicopter to get to the camp, despite having a phobia of heights and flying.
Then he came face to face with a box of cockroaches in a Bushtucker Trial. He broke down and complained of feeling sick after he failed to win the celebrity chest. And he's bound to face more creepy crawlies, physical challenges and hunger as the reality series progresses. Corrie co-star Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky McDonald, told the Diary: “I’m not surprised he had trouble jumping out of a helicopter. It took me three hours to get him on a plane once.
“We were going to Canada to do some promotional stuff for Coronation Street, and he kept having panic attacks.”She adds: “He’s done really well so far, I’m very proud of him.”Antony revealed that he had hypnotherapy to beat his fears before going in the jungle. He's one of the favourites to win the series.
Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz, says: “I think he’s done brilliantly to say how petrified he was with the helicopter.“But he’s quite stoical. Once he’s decided he’s doing something, he’ll get on and do it.”
Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson, says: “He’s been thrown in at the deep end, but he’s done so well. We’re all rooting for him.”And Corrie writer Jonathan Harvey, whose play Beautiful Thing is currently on at the Royal Exchange in Manchester, says: “It’s never nice seeing your friends suffering, but I think he’ll be OK. We’re all supporting him.” TV & Showbiz
